A Look at Architecture and A Curse
Center City Philadelphia real estate are some of the most visually appealing in the state of Pennsylvania. There is a lovely fusion of the old and the new. Historic neighborhoods are nestled close to modern towering structures, townhouses line one street while lofts are commonplace in another. Keeping your head tilted towards the sky, you will be dazzled by the architecture. You wouldn't even really need to go inside a museum to appreciate works of art.
Many of the skyscrapers that tickle the heavens above Philly are located in Center City. For the longest time the City Hall, with William Penn's statue at the top, was the tallest building in Philadelphia. Valiantly William Penn stood watch over the city. However come 1987, Penn's view was obstructed and was no longer omniscient. The 945 foot One Liberty Place Building towered over the 548 foot Philadelphia City Hall.
Seeking revenge, or so it is believed to be, William Penn doomed the future of Philadelphia's sporting scene. Since One Liberty Place stole the title of being the tallest building, not a single sports team has triumphed with a world championship. Popular all over Philadelphia, this seeming phenomenon is called the “Curse of Billy Penn.”
Despite the curse, Philadelphia's skyline seems to have benefited from the change and progress. Now, even more than ever, Center City is proof that the old and new can exist in harmony.
