Philadelphia is definitely a walkable city. It is always lovely to head out from your beautiful Center City property on a nice day and enjoy losing yourself in the streets. There are so many things that you can discover, so many delightful sights that you would want to capture, all laying in wait round the bend. The best way to explore this city is to set a day or two aside and travel on foot.
The lighting is perfect, with the right amount of sunlight filtering down between aged roofs. There is a sort of orange glow as you make your way through the narrow lane of Elfreth's Alley. Glass blowers and furniture builders once lived in these row of houses, and as you slowly walk past you think to yourself what it might have been like back then.
A stark contrast to little Elfreth's Alley are the sleek buildings in Penn Center. West of Chinatown and east of the Schuylkill River, this is the heart and soul of the Central Business District. Tall shiny structures of modern architecture are the giants inside which important business transactions are made.
When you're eyes grow tired and long for the soothing effect of green, walk over to Fairmount Park. Here you can take your shoes off, sit on the soft grass, and watch the day go by. Once you are already relaxed and the evening is bringing a close to the day, why not listen to a soothing Jazz or Classical concert at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts?
Tomorrow is another day for you to discover something new or old in one of Center City's streets.
